Sadly other events in my life meant that my return had to be delayed until after I had retired, then COVID prevented my travelling.

I had hoped to provide several answers to some questions that he had posed about the curious features built into the roof of his house, that we could not understand at the time. It turns out that Thomas Baber had built an observatory into the roof of his house, that he and Charles Whish used in 1819 to observe the passage of a comet, that they had found described in local documents, that recorded earlier passages of the same comet, and which predicted when it would return.

The discovery that the prediction in the document was indeed accurate convinced the two men that the science hidden in these documents found in Tellicherry was highly accurate, and that Indian's in Kerala had been far in advance of European maths several Centuries earlier than many of the Greek mathematicians who are credited with making the same discoveries.

C.M. Whish went on to publish papers at the Madras Literary Society during the 1830's. I have discovered that some of Whish's calculations and observations made at Pallikunnu survive in the Royal Asiatic Society in London.Nick Balmerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12730750075841601992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-580612332367811681.post-79678380899202701042021-05-01T15:23:52.344+00:002021-05-01T15:23:52.344+00:00A very nice and detailed description of the house ...A very nice and detailed description of the house full of love for his grand Grand….uncle.
